you know, it’s true that people who were of certain white ethnicities were once profiled. but never white people in general. and those ethnicities whiteness was either not established yet or somewhat disputed at that time. but my two points about what anonymous says is that the people who get profiled now (who are not white) WERE PROFILED CONCURRENTLY WITH THOSE ETHNICITIES. it’s not like ‘no irish need apply’ meant that black people were getting those jobs. i mean, really? how do you not understand that.
and to claim that people didn’t complain about it is completely absurd. THEY STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. irish and italian americans still complain that they are assumed to be criminals, or that they were once assumed to be criminals. and, i mean, right they should. it’s not racism but it’s still wrong. but to be like, ‘it’s only the ethnicities/races currently being profiled that complain about how that’s wrong’ is just fucking lying.
